Specifications for Engineered Pulleys
|
- shafts shall conform to:
- a maximum deflection of 0.001 inches/inch under
ANSI B 105.1 deflection formula
- acceptable under ANSI B 105.1 formula for bending & torsion with a factor of safety
of equal to 1.5
- infinite life criteria as given by the Soderberg
relation evaluated under the distortion energy theory of failure
locking devices shall be chosen such that:
- shaft pressure does not exceed shaft yield
- transmitted torque does not exceed maximum allowable torque
- bending moment does not exceed allowable bending
hubs shall be sized according to
the thick-walled cylinder theory
Von Mises stresses shall not exceed:
- yield in the hub
- 70% of yield in the end disc
- 50% of yield in the rim
maximum shear stress in the end
disc, hub or rim shall not exceed 50% of component yield
both normal & shear principal
stresses in the end disc or rim shall not exceed 50% of material
yield
no normal or shear stress in the
end disc, hub or rim shall fail under fatigue
end disc, hub, rim and locking
devices shall be evaluated at all critical locations such as
radii, points of minimum thickness and transitional zones
